FINISHED!!

It's official! Done, done and DONE!! Feels good to have this project over, especially because we get to use our entire new very mastery bathroom now. Our original plan was to install a glass door for the shower but due to a near future move and the price tag, we opted for the curtain. Obviously not ideal but it works like a charm. It's insane how much more space we now have to shower, not hard to do though when you're coming from a space only 30" x 30"! 

These first pictures are of the loft transformation which only really consisted of moving a wall and door access. I honestly don't know why they laid it out the original way. That small nook was difficult to utilize because you still needed some space to access the bedroom, and the turn is always difficult when moving furniture. Now it's just a straight shot! My favorite by far is the view we now have through our bedroom out to the large window in the front of the house.

Shelves and Grout

Let's just say many things are happening at the George Compound and grouting the shower was not one of them for the longest time, haha! For whatever reason, mainly laziness, we put off on grouting the tile for over a month. Maybe longer. But we finally bared down and just did it one Saturday morning. It wasn't difficult, just really messy and hard to maneuver the two of us in the small place with ease. But after probably 3 hours, didn't think it would take that long, it was complete! I love how it turned out. We caulked around the bottom and sides, attached the fixtures and VWALA!

I finished the shelves probably 2 months ago just never updated the blog. Tuned out alright, the stain on the shelf is way darker than I would have liked but oh well, definitely not loosing sleep over it. It's just nice to be able to store our towels in the bathroom for the first time now!

Loft Complete

Done and done! Second room in this renovation completely finished (lower bathroom is done, pics to come later)! I'll post before and after pictures once everything is complete (shower, trim and shelves left in the master bathroom). For now I think the loft turned out pretty nice and we're just working on rearranging furniture in it to make it a designated office space.

The Joys of Finishing Projects

Ha! Did you think this was a post about finishing the bathroom because it's about damn time?! Well you would be wrong. The bathroom is very much on hold as we're having people come out to quote our shower doors. Thing is the quotes we're getting are way more than we would prefer to shell out, should have been expected, so we're evaluating options right now.

But we did wrap up an unfinished project this past weekend! Remember our shed we revamped? After finishing all the construction, we were left with finishing the ceiling tiles. Since the bathroom has taken priority the last couple of months we never finished the entire shed project. Honestly it's pretty typical with how we do things around here, I mean we renovated our kitchen 2 years ago but still haven't installed the crown molding or quarter round about the base of the cabinets! Oh well, we'll get to it. At least that's what we tell ourselves when we don't feel like doing it, hence it still not finished :o)

So now that the bathroom isn't a priority at this time, we got to the shed! It really does feel good to completely finish a job. I think we're getting the ball rollin' with this one!

 I did kind of work on the bathroom, well more like the mess that we've created with the bathroom renovation. We've wrapped up a majority of the project so a lot of the materials and tools we no longer need upstairs. So after about an hour of working up and down our itty bitty stairs, it's cleaned! Seriously, after I clean anything I ask myself why I don't do it more often or sooner. Some things I just don't understand about myself. It's gotten me excited though about once this whole thing is done and we have all our spaces back in order. Until then, I will definitely take the small piles tucked away.

Death to Subway Tiles!

Tiling done!! Well... more like 98% done since we still have 2 shelves and some tiny pieces to install, but the overwhelming, never ending walls are completed! I also added pictures of the finished wall in our bedroom and the wall where the light switch is when you first walk into the room (those have been finished for awhile now I just haven't updated them on the blog). 

Final items left on the list are grout shower tiles, install shower faucets and spouts, stain and install trim, make transition piece from carpet to tile, shower doors (will need to be custom built), and build a couple of shelves for the cubby whole. That will complete the actual bathroom, we still have the drywall to finish in the loft as well (just waiting to get the truck up and running to pick up the sheets).

Functioning Toilet!!

Toilet is in and we spent no time christening it with the #1 and #2. It also didn't take me long to fill up the drawers will all my junk, especially now that we can actually use the majority of our new master bathroom!! I really am loving it more than I thought and it feels sooooo much bigger than before, for obvious reasons it should feel bigger since the square footage is more but we also added a vanity and shower that are over twice the size of our old ones. But what really makes the difference is having the right layout of all the pieces, and even more so with one of our walls being slanted.

It's coming together and I love it and now we just need to finish the tile in the shower! They are small pieces and take forever but we just need to buckle down and do it.

Finally Looking Like a Bathroom!

Things have been a bit hectic around here but we're getting closer to the finish line with this bathroom. The big step made was getting the vanity in place! We had to put up some paneling (stuff we saved from the bathroom) and trim before we could get the get the vanity in or else we wouldn't have space to secure the boards. The paneling made the room pretty dark before but I love the warmth it brings, so we decided to just put it back up on one wall and the ceiling. We're waiting to finish the rest of the paneling until we have the tile up in the shower. We also grouted the tile on the floor, installed the light fixture and finished the outlets.

Tile or Wood?

We installed the tile flooring!! It's not a large space but it did take us in total 3 days, not full days, to do it all. With it being such a small space there were some tight spots we couldn't get to until other areas were dry and we could step on. Relatively easy process and we love the final result. We're going with a dark grout which we're hoping to finish tonight!

All Closed In!

So there was definitely a loll in our bathroom renovation the past couple of weeks. A larger hiccup was when we went to test our shower faucet and the hot water/pressure wasn't working. Long story short, after 4 calls to Home Depot and 2 shipments of materials sent to us in a week, the shit still didn't work so we ended up modifying the piece that was wrong ourselves. Essentially we lost 6 days of progress from this snafu.

For most of you that know David and me we are very cheap consumers, but major lesson learned was when doing a major renovation the cheapest items are most likely not the best decisions. Or, if we want to go the cheap route we need to read reviews of the product prior to purchasing.

After managing all that, we hit it hard and got quite a bit accomplished:
-All copper plumbing finished (except the valve for the toilet after drywall and paneling are installed)
-Vent stack modified (PVC was proud of the studs)
-Cement board on floor installed
-Plastic installed in shower
-Cement board installed in shower
-All the drywall installed (except the outside loft wall)
-Put on first round of mud on seams

First things first, the pictures below are the reality our our work space. In pictures, I'll clear all the clutter away so the progress and work can actually be seen, but in reality we're messy workers. Recently though with certain stages being wrapped up I've been able to clear out quite a bit of materials we don't need anymore. Yah buddy!!
