One Step Forward...Too Many Steps Back

Lesson of this past week:

Make a list of everything you are going to get done, then expect to only get to half of it...on a good day.

Progress was made just not as much as we would have hoped for ... I think that's actually the motto for any home owner doing their own renovation. First off when we had our HVAC unit put in during the kitchen renovation, they ended up using 5" diameter materials. Well apparently general contractor stores, Home Depot and Lowes, only carry 4" and 6" so finding what we needed became a little more difficult. Fortunately I found a place right in town that will sell to residence, but I ended up getting the wrong flexible duct (I didn't realize that stuff can come insulated, #15 on the ever growing list of things Laura's learned during the project). Then when I ordered the correct stuff it was on back order and hasn't come yet. WHICH... long story long is why we can't finish laying the flooring which would really get this ball rolling again.

Another unexpected event was realizing we need double the amount of sub flooring than we thought. After we put part of the floor down that we could, we noticed there was quite a bit of bounce (wouldn't work since we're laying tile). After we added multiple support boards between the joists to solve the problem, there still was a slight bounce. David then did some on-the-spot research and found out basically all professional contractors use two layers of 5/8" plywood for this very reason when tiling is to follow. Well dammit! It doesn't seem like it will effect much other than the height of the toilet we already set (can't move vertically because of the 2x4 frame), but still. DIY learning pains.

I'd like to say where we will be by this time next week but refer to the top of the post for reasons why I'm refraining.
Ceiling hole cut larger to joists and supports added to screw drywall to            Ventilation laid out
Basically, truck died last week so we rented a van to haul plywood, drywall and cement board. Worked great!
Tiny wall boards mounted
Waste plumbing passed the water hose test!!!                                             I see flooring!!
Door's in
Planing walls that stick out... remodels can really suck at times but they make for cool pictures :o)
